Through the Ross Institutes + Centers, you’ll find a path to bring your passion to life. Each Institute + Center offers a unique way to customize your experience at Michigan. Whether you choose to engage with one or all of our Institutes + Centers, you’ll have countless opportunities to help build a better world through business.

With these groups, you can work on:

  • Tauber: The Global Operations Conference is designed to benefit students, academicians, and industry leaders through an interactive exchange of ideas and insights into innovations in supply chain management and operations. 
  • CPO: The Magnify Immersion Program is an experiential learning course offered every spring term. Cross-disciplinary teams of undergrad students from business, organizational studies, psychology and additional majors engage in rigorous field research to design innovative science-based recommendations to strengthen the program’s organizational partners.
  • Tauber: Integrated Product Development is an intensive, experiential learning course offered in partnership with the Tauber Institute. Cross-disciplinary teams of students from business, engineering, and art and design envision and fabricate prototypes for new product offerings.
  • B+I: Academic/Executive Convenings enhance scientific research, upgrade the technological capabilities of industrial sectors in all countries and cut across boundaries to advance innovative practical solutions to society’s toughest social challenges.
  • ZLI: The Zell Lurie Institute’s innovative approach to experiential learning – combined with the Business School’s traditional management excellence – encourages and nurtures students exploring entrepreneurial careers to succeed, autonomously or in a corporate setting, as leaders of innovation for new venture creation and growth.
  • B+I: The +Impact Studio is a collaboration space and an educational community passionate about design for impact. It serves as a campus hub for design and impact. It also engages with community organizations and companies which seek to apply faculty insights and design tools to advance their impact and create new business. 
  • Erb: Erb Sustainability Toolboxes provide business practitioners with practical tools and approaches to integrate social and environmental impact into strategy and operations 
  • Paton Center: The Paton Scholarship Fund was created in 1955 and is permanently endowed at the University of Michigan. The fund is guided by the Paton Advisory Board, which is comprised of alumni and a Ross faculty member. Scholarship recipients are selected by the Ross School of Business.
  • Mitsui: Mitsui Life Financial Research Center offers the E. Han Kim Doctoral Fellowship to fund PhD candidates with a stipend and healthcare for the academic year, and the Mitsui Life Doctoral Award, which awards academic performance.
  • CPO offers innovative coursework, workshops and training sessions, research opportunities with our world-class faculty, and broad field immersion experiences. Get started with +LAB (learning community open to graduate and undergraduate students) or the Magnify Immersion Program (an undergraduate spring course).
  • B+I: We provide Scholarships for students in need who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to pursuing avenues to solve complex social challenges.
  • WDI: WDI’s Education Sector partners with universities and organizations in emerging markets and advances their capacity to deliver world-class management education programs in emerging markets through training and consulting projects. 
  • Sanger: Ross Leaders Academy, LDRx, Story Lab, Leadership Crisis Challenge, Legacy Lab and a variety of curricular integrations approach leadership development from a variety of perspectives to educate students about and empower them with necessary skills to excel as leaders. 
  • CPO: Positive Links Speaker Series features researchers sharing diversity, equity and inclusion content in an accessible way. Examples include: Are diversity initiatives effective? (Lisa Leslie); Authenticity on one’s own terms (Patricia Faison Hewlin); Creating more inclusive workplaces in an era of discord (Stephanie Creary); Clash! Bridging cultural divides in the workplace (Hazel Rose Markus); Cultivate positive identities (Laura Morgan Roberts).
  • ZLI: The Women Who Fund Forum offers a unique platform for women in alternative investments to discover market trends while developing deeper connections in the private equity and venture capital industry.
  • Erb: Erb’s DEI work promotes diversity in Erb student and staff communities, as well as among our business and conference partners, as a missing link in the global sustainability challenge 
  • ZLI: The Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies is leading the development of the next generation of serial entrepreneurs and venture investors. ZLI does this through a broad range of activities including academics, symposium, competitions, and global community outreach.

  • ZLI, Erb, B+I: The Michigan Business Challenge (MBC) is a campus-wide business plan competition boasting over $100,000 in prizes. Zell Lurie, Erb, and B+I support the Seigle Impact Track for sustainability or social impact focused student-led ventures.  
  • DESAI: The Desai Accelerator provides the funding, mentorship, staff, and resources necessary for early-stage ventures to rapidly grow through a 10-month, intensive program.
  • Mitsui: The Mitsui Life Financial Research Center functions as an active community of faculty, students, and visiting research scholars. The Center has rapidly expanded its influence and reputation in the support and dissemination of academic research in financial economics. 
  • B+I/ZLI: Open Road at Ross promotes development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation 
  • ZLI: The Midwest Growth Capital Symposium (MGCS) is an annual conference held in Michigan that showcases 40-60 Midwest companies and up and coming research being commercialized by the Big 10’s Universities. The MGCS connects these pre-selected high-growth start-ups with investors furthering economic development and job creation primarily in Michigan and the greater Midwest region.   
  • India Initiatives/CK Prahalad Initiative: India Initiatives at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business delivers cutting-edge ideas, pioneering research, and innovative business solutions for companies in India with an eye toward balancing profits and social value creation. 
  • OTPR: A major objective of the Office of Tax Policy Research is to help countries, including developing countries, design tax systems that will facilitate economic growth and achieve distributional goals.  As a multi-disciplinary center, this is achieved through collaborative research with others from around the world, publications, seminars, and conferences.
  • B+I: Ross Accounting Outreach provides free accounting help to neighborhood businesses in Detroit to help them grow. 
  • WDI: WDI’s Healthcare Sector works across the healthcare value chain to enable well-functioning markets, strengthen supply chain systems, and improve healthcare delivery. 
  • ZLI: The Zell Lurie Commercialization Fund (ZLCF) is a student-run early-stage investment fund with the primary goal of identifying promising startups in the University of Michigan ecosystem and beyond focused on commercializing technologies across sectors including healthcare.  
  • Erb: The Erb institute’s mission is to create a socially and environmentally sustainable world through the power of business. Erb does that through research, teaching and business engagement—all focused on preparing and supporting bold business leaders who can adeptly transform companies, industries and entire economies for systemic sustainability. 
  • Tauber: The Tauber Institute empowers leaders to solve operations, supply chain, and technology-based challenges through a multidisciplinary, action-oriented education, global industry partnerships, and a dynamic community to create a positive impact and sustainable production.
  • WDI: Consulting Projects around Energy focus on appropriate infrastructure and innovation. Out of necessity, rather than an intentional effort to have a positive environmental or social impact, innovations have been developed by low income communities to increase access to energy utilizing renewable sources such as solar and wind power. 
  • Sanger: The Sanger Leadership Center develops leaders with the character and capabilities to thrive in today’s dynamic world of work. The Ross Leaders Academy, Leadership Crisis Challenge and Legacy Lab constitute key leadership development programs that promote positive relationships and teamwork.
  • CPO: The Center for Positive Organizations seeks to build a better world through the science and practice of thriving organizations. It’s Consortium unites researchers and organizational change leaders in the quest to build a working world where employees are healthier, more engaged, and thriving. The +LAB and Magnify Immersion Program offer students the opportunity to create positive work environments and improve workplace culture.
  • Tauber: Tauber Institute Fellows participate in the LeadershipAdvantage Program, an intensive series of modules in which business and engineering students jointly learn how to work collaboratively across disciplines to effect positive change when facing complex issues.
  • The Office of Tax Policy Research serves as a liaison on tax issues among the academic, business, and policymaking tax communities.  In addition, OTPR provides rigorous research to help inform the policy debate.
  • Tauber:  The Tauber Institute partners with public and private companies to improve their operations. 
  • Erb: Convening series “Conversations with Consequence” brings together business and nonprofit leader to learn and collaborate on business-sustainability solutions.
