Each year, the Ross School of Business’s Business+Impact Initiative selects a group of Nonprofit Board Fellows to serve as non-voting members of boards across Southeast Michigan. The Ross community prides itself on using business as a function to create a more equitable and just society, and for over 20 years this program has served as a critical opportunity for graduate students to become involved in, and contribute to, local communities and causes. Each year, the Fellowship hosts a public forum in the form of a panel discussion with representatives from local nonprofit organizations. This year, the theme of the forum is “Stronger Together: How Nonprofits Can Collaborate.” We believe that collaboration between nonprofits will only become more instrumental in combating injustices across America. Join us for a panel discussion featuring four local nonprofit experts: Kelly Maxwell, DDNRC; Courtney Smith, Detroit Phoenix Center; Kevin Thompson, Good Inc.; and Kyla Carlsen, Co.act Detroit.
+Impact Studio Course Kicks Off
The +Impact Studio course (BA670) met for the first time this Winter on January 10th, and welcomed 50 students. Taught by Jerry Davis and Cat Johnson, and attended by grad students from 9 colleges across campus, the Winter 2022 course will engage with tech-enabled changes that have transformed the raw materials of enterprise (labor, capital, supplies, distribution) and what that means for its stakeholders.

On Friday, December 10, 2021, B+I’s +Impact Studio Design Lab welcomed Gabriel Scharg, Director of Investments, Applebaum Ventures and Suzanne McEachern – Director of Communications, Applebaum Family Philanthropy. Gabe and Suzanne met with all of the Applebaum Fellows and Applebaum Founders to discuss the continuing development of the students’ social ventures, along with Moses Lee, Applebaum Innovator-in-Residence. Open Road is an action-based social entrepreneurship program taking place in May, where students drive from state to state meeting socially- and environmentally-driven entrepreneurs. Students spend one week on-site in each location, working closely with the entrepreneur, to provide a solution or recommendation to a business problem they are facing.
Open Road @ Ross is a student club powered by Ford and co-sponsored by Business+Impact and the Zell Lurie Institute.
