Photo of Nasreen R Meah

When considering the growing South Asian population in the United States and their innate diversity, it is vital to have the appropriate information and knowledge about this group regarding their values, culture, and belief systems to better assist them with their needs. This workshop is designed to enhance the knowledge base and skill level of practitioners and others interested in engaging with this diverse and growing population. Learn about the diversity of the South Asian community and why social workers must understand and address this population’s social and mental health issues by considering the historical context and the intersectional perspectives. Examples of case studies and trauma-informed interventions in working with the South Asian population in a culturally-responsive manner will be discussed.
