Here are the Three MBA Women Who Received This Year’s Skip and Carrie Gordon Scholarships

ANN ARBOR – Oct. 11, 2019 – Business+Impact (B+I) is pleased to announce that Sheetal Singh (MBA ’20), Emma Smith (MBA ’20) and Ivy Wei (MBA/MS ’20) were chosen to receive the 2019-20 Skip and Carrie Gordon Scholarships for outstanding commitment to solving complex social challenges through learning. These three recipients were chosen from nearly thirty applicants, and the announcement comes with a $5,000 award for each recipient.  Each will serve as B+I Student Ambassador for the full 2019-20 academic year.

Sheetal Singh‘s career goal is to create leading-edge solutions, such as mobile payments, and develop business strategies that provide customized digital financial services to low-income populations.  Her MAP project was focused on conducting due diligence for small-medium enterprises in India to determine investment worthiness, and she is currently part of the Fall 2019 cohort in the +Impact Studio course (BA 670).  Additionally she has been part of the Social Venture Fund and Women Who Launch.

Emma Kwenu Smith grew up in Ghana, and that fueled her interest in alleviating society’s pressing challenges, particularly through  education and human capital management.  In addition to work on her social enterprise, Any Book Now, Emma spent a summer in South India working as a William Davidson Institute Fellow with the Michigan Academy for the Development of Entrepreneurs. She has also been active in the Michigan Business Women Club and the African Business Club.

Ivy Wei is dual degree student in Michigan Ross and the School for Environment and Sustainability through the Erb Institute. Her long-term aspirations are to lead corporate sustainability and social responsibility with a mission-driven consumer goods company.  Prior to U-M, she interned with TOMS Shoes, and while at U-M she has interned with Johnson & Johnson‘s corporate sustainability team’s Care to Recycle program, and with the Environmental Defense Fund‘s corporate partnerships division.  For the latter, she received Summer Fund assistance from B+I. At Ross, she participated in the 2018 Social Impact Challenge, Ross Diversity & Inclusion, and Open Road at Ross.
