Local leaders will share their insights on tech advancements in strategy, the influence of social media on donor outreach, equitable community fundraising initiatives, and novel tactics for donor retention and engagement. Panelists will be announced soon. Ideal for students, nonprofit professionals, and social entrepreneurs, this event will provide a glimpse into the future of non-profit fundraising. Dinner will be served.
Ross DEI Research Awards Program
The Ross Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, in collaboration with the Dean’s Office and the Ross Faculty and Staff DEI committees, is pleased to announce the third annual Ross DEI Awards. The awards will be presented at the Annual DEI Awards event on April 29, 2024. Nominations are now being accepted for: Faculty Research Award ($5000), PhD Student Research Award ($3000), BBA Senior Thesis Award ($1000), J. Frank Yates Diversity and Inclusion Teaching Excellence Award ($5000), and Ross Staff DEI Impact Award ($3000). Summer Impact Internship Funding Application
First Deadline: Thurs, March 7
Each summer, Business+Impact awards competitive grants for summer internships to MBAs and BBA juniors in the Ross School of Business as well as MPP students in the Ford School of Public Policy who are interning at social impact organizations. The application for these monetary awards has a first deadline of Thurs, Mar. 7, and a final deadline of Thurs, Apr. 18. Award decisions will be based on the organization’s impact, level of need (taking into account other funding being received), consideration of the position and the quality of the application.

Meagan Dunn (BA ’03)
Meagan Dunn is the executive director of Covenant House Michigan, having served in that position since July 2022. Part of an international organization, Covenant House serves homeless young adults aged 18 to 24, some of whom have been victims of human trafficking. Dunn has had a long career in public service, including having worked for three former Detroit mayors. The Detroit native and current resident of the city has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan and a master of business administration degree from Michigan State University.

+Impact Studio’s Affirmative Wins the Michigan Business Challenge – Seigle Impact Track
We’re excited to share that the winner of the 2024 MBC – Seigle Impact Track is Affirmative – (Sasha Kolodkin, MBA,MSI ’24). The venture won the finals on Fri, Feb. 9 and received $15,000 in prize money. Affirmative was begun as a student venture in the +Impact Studio, and is focused on providing planning for US-based users seeking medical care requiring domestic or international travel. The runner up was NeoNest, which won $7,500.

The focus of Black History programming this year is empowering and uplifting the rich culture, creativity, and impactful contributions of Black folks within the diaspora. Our theme, “Empowering Generations: Past, Present, Future” is inspired by the importance of innovative artistic expression echoed throughout generations.
Leadership Positions Available
The UM Sustainable Food Program (UMSFP) and the Student Sustainability Coalition (SSC) are now hiring for the 2024/25 Leadership Team! Student Life Sustainability connects students to practice sustainable leadership and partner with staff. We work with a team of over 60 paid student leaders to advance sustainability and social justice on UM’s campus. We are currently hiring students to lead the Student Sustainability Coalition and the UM Sustainable Food Program for the 2024-25 academic year. Undergraduate and graduate students of any age or academic specialization are encouraged to apply. Pay starts at $17.50/hour for all roles.

The Winter 2024 Group sign-up form is now open! The group is scheduled for the full semester at your convenience, so be sure to select the times for which you’re available. All undergraduate groups will meet in person this Winter 2024 semester. Most graduate groups will meet in-person, and based on availability there will potentially be some groups that meet virtually through Zoom.

The Women of Color Task Force is excited to host its 42nd annual Career Conference on March 1, 2024. This year as we return to campus, the conference will be a hybrid event held at the Michigan Union with in-person and virtual sessions. All U-M staff, faculty, students, and the public, regardless of gender or ethnicity, are invited to attend this inclusive professional development event.
Engage Detroit Workshops Funding
Proposals are being sought for the 2024 Engage Detroit Workshops grant program that supports new workshops or speaker series on a topic connecting the University of Michigan with Detroit communities. The program is preparing for its third year and building on previous years’ success. Applicants are asked to identify a theme for their proposed event or events that are relevant to Detroit constituencies.
CENTER FOR THE EDUCATION OF WOMEN
2024 Paid Fellowship Applications
Applications for four CEW+ fellowships are now open. Fellowship funds for the current application can be awarded in Winter 2024, Spring/Summer 2024, or Fall 2024. Applications must meet student-designed research that is tied to degree requirements and focused on issues of importance to women, and must involve travel abroad for students in public health, environmental health, or another health-related field. Most CEW+ Fellowships range between $2,000 and $5,000.
James A. Kelly Learning Lever Prize
The James A. Kelly Learning Lever Prize is a competition designed to challenge University of Michigan students to invent digital tools with the potential to significantly improve student learning. This prize encourages a culture of innovation in education, and rewards the creative, interdisciplinary work of University of Michigan students.

Semester in Detroit
Semester in Detroit accepts undergraduate students from all schools and departments at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, UM-Dearborn, UM-Flint and Grand Valley State University. All students, from First years to Seniors or Super Seniors are eligible to apply. Applicants should have a strong interest in the city of Detroit and in questioning dominant narratives; engaging with challenging new perspectives on contemporary issues; and building community with one another, SiD faculty and staff, and community members at internship sites and beyond.

2024 Health Tech Global Case Writing Competition – WDI Publishing on the lookout for academic business case studies highlighting innovative products or services that have transformed healthcare outcomes in low- and middle-income countries. The COVID-19 pandemic spurred a wave of advancements, from telehealth to efficient vaccine distribution. Join the competition, share your insights, and stand a chance to win cash prizes! Applications due March 15.
DEI Global Case Writing Competition – WDI Publishing and U-M’s Ross School of Business have launched the 2024 DEI Global Case Writing Competition, the fourth consecutive year for the contest, which includes cash prizes for top three finishers. The competition is an opportunity to shape the academic conversation and improve diversity, equity and inclusion within businesses. Applications due April 12.

The ideal candidate will have a background in designing and implementing financing programs, preferably in the clean energy sector. Net Impact’s Circular Plastics Challenge needs innovative leaders like you to imagine how we can craft a truly circular economy! Industry-leading companies are eager for fresh, out-of-the-box thinking to push the plastics industry to become more circular, at scale. In an effort towards making progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Production and Consumption, Net Impact’s Circular Plastics Challenge calls upon innovators, systems-thinkers, and practitioners from all walks of life and levels of study to consider, “How might we increase the supply of rPET to create a more circular economy for plastics?”
