Attend the BA670 Impact Studio Demo Day

BA670: The Impact Studio course concludes tomorrow, with student final presentations, guest leaders from the community, and even refreshments. A product of this course is a whole new set of How-To Guides which will further populate our Green Business Transition website starting in early May!
Dr. Marcus Harris and UM-Dearborn Students Work in the Impact Studio
Loren Townes Jr. curated and led three workshops with Annaliese Fowler for Dr. Marcus Harris and his students at the University of Michigan Dearborn. Dr. Harris teaches a Social Entrepreneurship course (ENT 403) and three introductory Entrepreneurship sections (ENT 400), from which the participating students hailed. The primary goal of this interactive workshop was to guide students in exploring ways to apply design thinking as a tool to generate ideas and solutions to address social impact issues through an equity lens.
“Prototype Day” with Our Donors and Friends
On Friday, April 5, representatives from Applebaum Family Philanthropy and other expert community advisors visited the Impact Studio to take part in our first ever “Prototype Day.” Their visit aimed to cultivate a learning opportunity for UM students in the +Impact Studio Founders and Applebaum Impact Design Fellows programs to bring their social impact ideas to market. Applebaum Family Philanthropy, as a key sponsor, plays a vital role in supporting the activities within the +Impact Studio Design Lab.

Each summer, Business+Impact awards competitive grants for impact-focused summer internships to MBAs and BBAs in the Ross School of Business as well as MPP students in the Ford School of Public Policy. Award decisions will be based on the organization’s impact, level of need (taking into account other funding being received), consideration of the position and the quality of the application
Board Fellowship Nonprofit Recruiting
We invite nonprofits serving Southeast Michigan to join us for an information session on the U-M Nonprofit Board Fellowship Program. You will learn about the program requirements, goals, and timeline. Eligible nonprofits must be registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3), have an operating history of at least 2 years, a minimum of 5 board members, and a minimum of 2 board meetings between October 2024 and April 2025. Please email boardfellows@umich.edu with any questions about the session.

Student Loan Repayment Program for Full-Time MBA Alums in Social Impact Careers
Through the Impact Advantage Program, alumni of the Michigan Ross Full-Time MBA Program (2021 grads and after) who pursue a career in the public or nonprofit sectors can apply for student loan repayment assistance. For those graduates accepted into the program, Impact Advantage will cover a portion of their Ross-related loan obligations — up to $7,500 per year for five years — while they are employed full-time at a social impact organization.
Applications for this program will be accepted in October 2024, but all of you upcoming graduates should save the date!
Internship Opportunity with Impact Studio Venture
H.E.A.L (Helping Each other Advocate Loudly), an Impact Studio venture is looking to hire a BBA Junior or MBA1 as a Digital Health Market Access & Entry Strategy Intern this summer, who will be responsible for developing a business model hypothesis and competitive analysis for the enterprise. H.E.A.L is an early stage startup dedicated to empowering low-income Black, Indigenous, Women of Color (BIWOC) with the tools and resources they need to make informed healthcare decisions and advocate for themselves in medical settings.

Katherine Kayhoe: New Climate Solutions and Galvanizing for Action

The 22nd Peter M. Wege Lecture welcomes climate activist Katherine Hayhoe for a solutions-oriented talk about what people can do to have the biggest impact in their communities. In this critical election year, when every decision is a climate decision, Hayhoe will discuss what’s new in climate action and climate science—and offer viable solutions that everyone across the political spectrum can support and adopt at the local and national levels.
2024 Harold R. Johnson Diversity Service Award

The Harold R. Johnson Diversity Service Award, named after Dean Emeritus of the School of Social Work, was established in 1996 to recognize faculty whose service goes above and beyond their regular duties and contributes to the development of a culturally and ethnically diverse campus community. Nominations will be accepted for all full-time tenured, tenure-track, research track, and clinical faculty on the Ann Arbor campus (including librarians, curators, and archivists). Nominations can be made by faculty, staff, and students, and must include a nomination letter, which should not exceed 2,000 words.
Ginsberg Center Service Cords
All graduating students! The purpose of these cords is to recognize students at graduation that have — through direct service, activism and advocacy, or other forms of civic engagement — helped address or make positive change around a specific social issue in partnership with economically or socially marginalized communities beyond campus.
CEW+ Scholarships
The CEW+ Scholarship Program, which today serves women and underserved students, was established in 1970 to honor the academic performance and potential of women whose education has been interrupted and to commemorate the one-hundredth anniversary of the admission of women to the University of Michigan. With support from our generous donors, CEW+ was able to expand the program in 2008 to include additional scholarships for students of all genders. Please check eligibility.
Multicultural Design + Inclusive Spaces Summit
University of Michigan Student Life is hosting a multicultural design and inclusive space summit inviting individuals from across the country and various disciplines and fields to our campus who are focused on creating, managing, and designing inclusive communities. The Summit will highlight the unique inclusive spaces, design, and storytelling at the University of Michigan and bring national leaders together to discuss best practices for design, management, and institutional structures to support inclusive spaces and create strategic plans for future inclusive space plans.

Public Humanities Internship Program
Now in its fourth year, the Public Humanities Internship is a paid internship program that provides 8 selected undergraduate students at the University of Michigan with the unique opportunity to participate in the life of the Institute for the Humanities. Interns, under the direction of the assistant director for undergraduate student engagement & marketing, interact with faculty, curators, staff, visiting artists, and other members of our community to explore humanities topics and ideas. They then turn those conversations into humanities-related programs and events geared toward undergraduate students. Interns work 7-10 hours/week and are paid $18/hour.

Anti-Racism Grants

In 2021 the OVPR Anti-Racism Grants program was created to catalyze innovative research and scholarship efforts and advance knowledge around complex societal racial inequalities that can inform actions to achieve equity and justice. These grants were developed in partnership with the Provost’s Anti-Racism Initiative, and are jointly administered and advanced in partnership with the National Center for Institutional Diversity’s Anti-Racism Collaborative. For each program cycle, OVPR will provide funding for up to seven proposals – five at level 1 up to $50K and two at level 2 up to $100K.
Disco Summit 2024
The DISCO Summit is a two-day interdisciplinary summer symposium about digital social inequalities in celebration of the third year of the DISCO Network. The DISCO Network is a collaborative, intergenerational group of scholars dedicated to envisioning a new anti-racist and anti-ableist digital future. This summit is free and open to the public and has an online option in addition to the in-person event.

Justice for all is not just a pledge. It’s a vision. It’s a commitment. It’s action. The Second Annual Racial Justice at Work Summit is exploring who we need to be, what we need to know, and what we need to do to make justice for all a reality. Tickets are $799.
Climate Leadership Conference
The annual Climate Leadership Conference (CLC) and Awards (CLAs) is North America’s premier event dedicated to uplifting climate leadership and addressing the climate crisis through policy, innovation, and business solutions.
Hosted by The Climate Registry (TCR), the conference brings together forward-thinking leaders from business, government, academia, and the non-profit community to explore energy and climate solutions and opportunities, and to showcase climate leadership.

Centering Justice (CJ) is a virtual space to find and share inspiration for racial justice and liberation. Here, we celebrate people, stories, and ideas to spur community-centered action. We uplift BIPOC leaders who are already dreaming, healing, reflecting, and moving us forward. CJ is a space to hear, learn, practice, play. It’s a space to explore ourselves, our work in nonprofits and social change. And a place to rediscover the skills and wisdom we need to transform into the future we want, together.

D-Prize Startup Grant
Can you design a new business or NGO that delivers a proven poverty intervention at scale? Submit your design for a new organization that solves one of our Distribution Challenges below. We will award the most promising teams with up to $20,000 USD to launch their new organization wherever extreme poverty exists. Subject areas include Health, Water, Education, Agriculture, Livelihoods, and Public Services.
Listen4Good
Listen4Good was created in 2016 by Fund for Shared Insight as a part of its effort to promote high-quality listening and equity-driven feedback practices across the social sector. Register to participate in Listen4Good Premium or Listen4Good Online+. Organizations can participate in one of two Listen4Good cohorts annually. The deadlines to register are June 1 and December 1 every year. Cohorts begin every July and January, respectively.
