Anti-Ableism 101

Anti-Abelism 101 session on Zoom. Open to all SPH community members. Sponsored by Office of Access, Culture, and Community, and Detroit Disability Power. This event is on Wednesday, October 22 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.Open to School for Public Health Community

This is a foundational 2 hour training to help participants understand and reflect on introductory concepts about disability, ableism, accessibility, and the 4 levels of oppression & change.

Detroit Disability Power presents Anti-Ableism 101, a two-hour Zoom workshop designed to provide critical insights into disability justice. This interactive session will explore foundational concepts including ableism as an intersecting system of oppression, disability as a cultural and political identity, models of disability, and accessibility—covering who is included in the disability community, appropriate language, and engagement strategies.

Participants will learn concrete tools for creating inclusive environments and developing effective allyship skills across professional and personal spaces. More than a learning experience, this workshop is an opportunity for activists, educators, and community leaders to actively contribute to building a more equitable and accessible world.
