Creative Writing and Choreography: An Arts Initiative and DEI Collaboration

This interactive workshop, led by U-M School of Music, Theatre, and Dance lecturer Kara Roseborough, blends creative writing and choreography to foster self-expression, celebrate individual and collective identities, and explore the intersections of movement and text. Through structured prompts and collaborative exercises, participants will craft identity-based written and choreographic material, encouraging a deeper understanding of themselves and others. Rooted in principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, this workshop creates a space for participants to explore personal identity, cultural narratives, and shared experiences. Activities emphasize spatial awareness, improvisational storytelling, and collaborative creation, aiming to amplify diverse voices and foster empathy through the arts. After each prompt, the group will engage in a 10-minute sharing session, offering a platform for participants to present their creations, discuss their processes, and receive feedback. These reflective moments encourage collaboration, celebrate individuality, and demonstrate the power of integrating movement and writing to promote connection and understanding. This workshop is open to anyone curious about using the arts as a tool for fostering inclusivity and exploring identity. Be prepared to move and share!
