Managing the Consequences of Climate Change
Open to Everyone
Climate change problems are difficult to advance under the best of circumstances. In the U.S., political shifts from election to election provide another challenge to maintaining focus on climate change. Dr. Rood has developed a multi-disciplinary approach to complex problem solving, with a focus on climate change. It includes an understanding of climate science, skills in complex problem solving, uncertainty management, and scenario planning. This talk will highlight how analyzing adaptation problems in terms of time spans, spatial extent, and wealth reduces complexity and makes problems more tractable. It discusses key elements of uncertainty management and maintains that when compared to other challenges we face in addressing complex problems, climate change is our most certain knowledge of the future.
