Dr Yiluan Song, Prof Kai Zhu. and Prof Peter Reich are excited to announce the upcoming joint Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS) – IGCB Mini-Symposium, “Understanding Biodiversity in a Changing Planet”. The event, scheduled for March 21–22, 2024, will explore the intersection of climate change, biodiversity, and data science.

This symposium is an opportunity to not only learn about leading-edge applications of data science methods in biodiversity data collection, processing, and analysis but also engage in thought-provoking interdisciplinary discussions. We hope together we can contribute to shaping the emerging field of biodiversity data science. The event will unfurl over two exciting days, kickstarting with a round of inspiring talks on the first day, followed by an evening networking event. The second day will be dedicated to a faculty roundtable discussion.

Speakers at our event include:
Dr. Thomas Crowther, Professor of Ecology at ETH Zurich and Head of Crowther Lab
Dr. Noah Fierer, Professor, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Colorado at Boulder
Dr. Robert Guralnik, Curator, Biodiversity Informatics, Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida
Dr. Ruth Oliver, Assistant Professor, Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, University of California, Santa Barbara

Dr. Ben Weinstein, Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Scientist, University of Florida
Dr. Amy Zanne, Aresty Chair in Tropical Ecology, Associate Chair of Biology, University of Miami

Please find out more about the event and register here. We look forward to meeting you at the symposium.
