Golub Capital Nonprofit Board Fellows Network and Compass Pro Bono Launch Global Board Fellows Alumni Network to Connect MBA Graduates with Nonprofits

New Golub Capital Board Fellows Alumni Network to connect graduates with high-impact board service, pro bono consulting, and nonprofit leadership roles

The Golub Capital Nonprofit Board Fellows Network and Compass Pro Bono announced the creation of the Board Fellows Alumni Network (“the Network”), which connects Board Fellows alumni with high-impact volunteer leadership roles in the social sector. The Network connects alumni to local nonprofits, governance opportunities, and peer leaders in cities around the world, continuing the social impact work they began as Board Fellows. Alumni of the University of Michigan Board Fellows Program, housed at the Ross School of Business, will be eligible for these impactful opportunities.

Annaliese Fowler, Program & Strategic Initiatives Manager for Business+Impact, says, “The University of Michigan and Ross School of Business alumni communities are renowned for their strength and impact. The launch of the Alumni Network grants our Board Fellows alumni opportunities to remain deeply involved with the nonprofit sector, beyond their fellowship. We are thrilled to see the mission-driven opportunities for Michigan alumni continue to expand.”

Anne-Michele Harrington will serve as the Alumni Network’s founding Program Director, bringing more than 20 years of experience in strategic planning, capacity building, and cross-sector partnerships. Harrington will work closely with David Finegold, Executive Director of the Golub Capital Nonprofit Board Fellows Network and the leadership teams in each of Compass Pro Bono’s five cities – Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Chicago, Minneapolis, and New York City – to build and connect the Network’s community of alumni to strategic projects and board service with local nonprofit partners.

“Precisely because of their deep exposure to nonprofit governance during business schools, Board Fellows alumni are well-positioned to make a meaningful difference in their communities,” said Compass Pro Bono CEO Bethany Rubin Henderson. “This Network gives them a powerful way to stay engaged after graduation, while giving nonprofits access to passionate, board-ready leaders. We are delighted to support Board Fellows in continuing their community engagement after graduation and throughout their careers.”

“Compass Pro Bono’s hands-on, high-touch approach to curating skilled volunteer experiences and nonprofit board placements gives Board Fellows alumni the perfect on-ramp to continue the social impact work they began in business school,” said David Finegold,  “We are proud to help create an enduring home for this community of leaders and the nonprofits they serve and look forward to working with Anne-Michele and the team in this work.”

Similar local alumni chapters will be supported by Compass Pro Bono and hosted by Golub Capital Nonprofit Board Fellows programs in their cities/regions (Detroit/Ann Arbor, Los Angeles/San Francisco Bay Area, Pittsburgh, Charlottesville, Austin/Houston/Dallas and New Haven). In other cities and countries, Harrington will support volunteer alumni leadership teams, helping the Network scale globally.

Participation in the Network will be open to all Nonprofit Board Fellows alumni whose schools are members of the Network. Among the services that will be available for free to all Board Fellows alumni who join the Network are:

  • Matching alumni to open nonprofit board and committee roles in Compass Pro Bono cities.
  • Placing alumni on pro bono consulting teams and supporting them through strategic projects for nonprofit organizations
  • One-on-one advising for alumni exploring volunteer, board, or professional opportunities in the nonprofit sector.
  • Access to Compass Pro Bono’s virtual professional development programs focused on nonprofit management and governance.
  • Events that connect Golub Board Fellows alumni across programs with one another and with local nonprofit leaders.

Compass Pro Bono will also develop a robust online hub for Network resources, including alumni and nonprofit partner profiles, case studies, research, and practical tools. In partnership with Golub Capital and partner MBA programs, Compass Pro Bono will track the Network’s long-term collective impact, including alumni board service, pro bono engagements, and outcomes for participating nonprofits.

The Network’s online portal is scheduled to launch in February 2026. In the meantime, Board Fellows alumni interested in joining the Network or serving on city or country based chapter leadership teams are invited to join the Compass Pro Bono community online at https://community.compassprobono.org/.

Applications are now open to support a local nonprofit with your expertise this spring. Apply to provide one-on-one strategic guidance to a nonprofit leader,  to be matched to nonprofit board opportunities, or to volunteer on a high-impact pro bono consulting team.
