Avoiding Assumptions & Normalizing Disability

Join this practical, perspective-shifting workshop to explore how everyday assumptions can unintentionally undermine disability inclusion. Together, we’ll examine common misconceptions—such as assuming someone using a mobility cane needs assistance, or that two people with the same diagnosis will have the same needs—and consider how these assumptions can shape our interactions.

Participants will learn how viewing disability as a natural part of human diversity can help us respond with greater respect, awareness, and openness. This workshop offers an opportunity to reflect, challenge assumptions, and build more inclusive practices in everyday settings.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) captioning services will be provided. If you need additional accommodations to participate in this webinar, please email the ADA Coordinator at [email protected].
