MLK Symposium at the UMDC

The event is split into two parts:

Part 1: A livestream of the UM Ann Arbor keynote lecture featuring Donzaleigh Abernathy and Derrick Johnson.

Part 2: A live in-person conversation at the UMDC featuring "featured Detroiters" Nancy Parker and Orlando Bailey discussing the role of law and media in upholding freedom.

Part 1: Join us for the livestream of UM Ann Arbor’s 2026 MLK Symposium Keynote Memorial Lecture, featuring two keynote speakers: Donzaleigh Abernathy (an American actress, author, and civil rights activist, and the goddaughter of Dr. King) and Derrick Johnson (19th president and CEO, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People [NAACP]).

Part 2: Continue the conversation live in the UMDC with our featured Detroiters, Nancy Parker (Executive Director, Detroit Justice Center) and Orlando Bailey (Director of Engagement, Bridge Detroit), as they discuss the role of institutions of law and media in upholding freedom.
